Eye on Malaysia

We went for the launching of Visit Malaysia Year 2007 last night, not so much attracted by the event, more interested to see our "eye" compared to London eye.

The first impression I have was the "copycat" feeling, what is this "Everything boleh-land" want to show.

The second come to my mind again is for tax payers, including myself - This is again another hardware that is built without any long term planning. In the press, it was said it might be disposed after a year depending the situation.

Cost of building (source from the press) - RM30m
Assumption: Operating hours - 10am -10pm :12 hours
Minutes per ride - 20 min
Max rides - 36 rides
Each eye takes in max 8 people, there are 42 eyes
Cost per ride - RM15

So, we will then get RM66m (36x8x42x15x365days) in a year, yes cost recovered BUT only everything is for the best assumption.

The next question is that will tourists rush to Malaysia just for the eyes??? We must pick some to interview and find out. Perhaps let's start with the S'porean and Thailand.

BBC gave a very "good" slap on us - again, it is not the hardware that is all about.

As an accountant in nature, my heart dropped as I see the $$$ all drained down in the Titiwangsa Lake :-/
